International Artwork: An immersive experience for the locals

Catering to over 700 international artists, the White Rabbit Gallery was founded by Judith Neilson in 2009, after meeting her husband Wang Zhiyuan, a local Chinese artist. Known for its exhibitions on modern Chinese Contemporary art, Gallery here in Chippendale, Sydney recently had the exhibition titled Lumen. Illustrated on their website, as “harsh fluorescents, digital realities and literal cracks of lightning.”
According to their website, Lumen has over 25 artists from China and Taiwan, primarily focusing on light. With a current and up-to-date social media account, showcasing hundreds of images of the exhibition, it can invite anyone into the escapism interactivity the exhibition has to offer.
With a free pass entry, the building is immediately ready for its audience's introduction into the main, entryway leading to a staircase onto the first floor of the immersive exhibition. One of the first stand out displays is by the artist, Chung Han Yao, titled, ‘DzDz.” This interactive piece allows the light to move in conjunction with an audience member as it flashes and disappears to
their hand and body movements.

This was followed by, multiple interactive displays were playing with every sense, as sound, touch, and sight were significant in the artwork.
The display that seemed to have the most impact on visitors was the title piece of the exhibition, “Miniature,” created by the artist LuxuryLogico, According to their social media account, “The White Rabbit Gallery” it “transforms images from a video reel into an architectural light-scape. Each LED light is governed by a correlating pixel on a hidden monitor.”

“It was just breathtaking; the lights were blinding, as much as they were beautiful.” says a local resident from Chippendale at the exhibition referring to “Miniature.”
Lumen is a creative escapism that takes you on an interactive experience. It allows locals here in Sydney, to discover the work of artists miles away from them, giving space for discussion and appreciation to international talents. This interactive experience is bright and colourful, and due to its mesmerising capability, in touching, listening and moving with the artwork, and there’s no better way to experience innovative minds when it’s from the comfort of your own home.
